The amino acid methionine has a variety of important functions that make it an invaluable part of the HCV nutritional protocol. Methionine is essential for proper detoxification.

The methylated form of methionine, known as S-adenosylmethionine (SAM), attaches it’s methyl groups to toxins making them more easily excreted from the body.
SAM is made from methionine in a complex physiologic process that requires vitamins B12, folic acid and choline.
Methionine is a major source of sulfur-compounds including the amino acids taurine and cysteine.
Methionine promotes proper lipid (fat) metabolism by aiding their movement in and out of the liver.
A deficiency of methionine results in a condition known as fatty liver.
Fatty streaks are not an uncommon finding in those with HCV.

Methionine is an effective anti-inflammatory that helps to reduce the oxidative, degenerative effects of Hepatitis C.

Supplementation

Dosage range is 500-3,000 mg a day as SAM.
Methionine works synergistically with other antioxidants and amino acids such as choline and inositol.
